Ground Floor Social Club
Website refresh
The idea for this social club was born out of the pandemic and its goal is to get more like-minded people out of their homes and socialize with others. A couple of years later it’s doing great and expanding. I wanted to contribute an idea of more functionality to this website.
Having an interactive map will give users an idea of how other locations look and operate. The interactive calendar will help them filter those locations, days, and times to find a great event that fits someone’s schedule. Plus adding some hierarchal rules to the text also helps.

APPROACH
The old layout’s elements are pretty simple and easy to use. That is great for a company that is starting out with one location and is just getting started with creating events and getting people to sign up. But now the company has grown to open a few more locations and now has events booked everyday of the week. The website needs to accommodate the new needs of its users who are accustomed to finding what they need quickly and moving on to the next item of their busy day. These concerns were expressed by users mostly in person to the co-founders of the social club. The co-founders were aware of the growing concerns the site needed to accommodate the growth of their business. A good problem to have.
Title Screen
Problem: An issue we can into was loading times. Now that we were creating more functionality the loading times would increase.
Solution: To circumvent that concern, we produced a well-designed title screen that will appear and disappear when the home screen has loaded.
Old Home Screen
New Home Screen
Problem: Users/ members expressed concerns that the text wasn’t scalable. Even though their site is a great source for figuring out what events were happening, people were missing some finer details.
Solution: We addressed this by making sure the text was more scannable. Where users can easily identify an event or subject and read the finer details if interested.
Here is a quick list of the typographical changes we made to the homepage:
Thicker hamburger menu
Used a more refined version of the same font (Cormorant Garamond) to make the brand feel more upscale.
We incorporated the logo with the image image mark.
We used design elements to better separate unrelated text.
And we used the brand color orange for supplemental text.
Old Locations
New Locations
Problem: Through a survey, we found out that this page was populating pretty quickly and the scrollable page was becoming pretty cumbersome. When there were one or two locations the page was pretty usable. But when Ground Floor opened more locations that page became longer and longer.
Solution: What I designed to help solve this issue was an interactive map of California. There are pins that show the location of each club. And when selected, a callout will form with the proper information and a carousel of expandable images.
Old Events Page
New Events Page
Problem: As expressed by the growing number of members of the social club and new locations, an increasing number of events has made the scrolling events page difficult to use. If a member needs to plan to go to an event, they will have to keep scrolling until they find the right date and location.
Solution: Producing an interactive calendar will solve the issues of constantly scrolling to plan to attend an event. This calendar component will show which days have events, and which events have passed, and users will be able to filter by location. When a user selects a date, a pop-up will appear with event information.
CONCLUSION
This was a much-needed project for a growing and successful company that wanted a streamlined experience for its users while still offering components that are much needed. Members of the social club can attend and throw events within the club with the help of built-in tools that allow them to be more efficient with their screen time and more focused on interacting socially which are the core principles of Ground Floor.
